Eigener Name als Domainname
Nach vielen Jahren habe ich mich doch überwunden meinen eigenen Namen als Domainname zu registrieren. Der Grund war, dass ich nicht der einzige "Fabian Affolter" bin und so habe ich wenigsten diesen Domainname. "Affolter" ist natürlich schon lange besetzt... So sieht meine persönliche Webseite aus: http://fabian-affolter.ch Der Hintergedanke bei Design war möglichst einfach mit dem neusten CSS-Tricks und total anders als die meisten Seiten. Dies ist auch der Grund, dass die Seite in gewissen Browsern nicht so aussieht, wie sie sollte.

Details about an user from FAS
FAMA (Fedora Ambassadors Membership Administration) doesn't only take care about about metrics for the Ambassadors group but also for the membership process. In the past there was a need for simple tools to interact with the Fedora Account System to get details about unapproved members. The latest of those scripts is called fas-person.py. The functionality is similar to the supybot Fedora plugin (.fasinfo) expect that you can run it direct from the command line. It's useful for quick checks of FAS accounts if you know the FAS username.

FreeNX und Fedora 13
Meinen Artikel zu Freenx im Fedorawiki, der die Installation und die Konfiguration beschreibt, war ziemlich veraltet. Nach der Aktualisierung sollte es möglich sein FreeNX unter Fedora 13 in Betrieb zu nehmen. Kommentar, Ergänzungen, Korrekturen und anderes ist ausdrücklich erwünscht.

Fedora Events in Europe
There are some upcoming events in Europe (in or around Switzerland to be more precise) till the end of the year. FrOSCamp FrOSCamp is a multilingual two-day event taking place sometime on September 17-18 on the premises of the ETH Zurich in Switzerland that is completely free of charge. It's intended to be an exhibition, conference and hackfest featuring free and open source software as well as free content. While various people and projects will show, explain, demonstrate and develop further their works the event is free of any commercial offerings (save snacks and drinks). The event is open to any visitor but it's also strongly encouraged that projects take the chance and exchange ideas and experiences with other projects or hold the project's yearly meeting during the gathering. LinuxDay is a small event in Austria near the Swiss, German, and Lichtenstein border with around 300 visitors. There are talks, a little fair ground, lightning talks, and often spontaneous short workshops.

Vor langer Zeit...
Proprietäre Software-Hersteller unterstützen natürlich nur andere proprietäre Hersteller und so arbeiten gewissen Anwendung nur mit gewissen anderen zusammen, die logischerweise auch Geld kosten. Die Anwendung X ist abgestützt und die Dokumentenwiederherstellung von Excel hat mich ein bisschen überrascht...
Verdammt, dass war ja gerade nach dem Mittelalter. Ich habe gar nicht gewusst, dass MS-Produkte ein Datum, welches soweit zurückliegt, anzeigen können ;-)
Ich will jetzt nicht sagen, dass dies bei OpenOffice nicht vorkommen könnte, aber dort wird es wenigstens gefixt...

Fedora Project Leader
Als Nachfolger von Paul W. Frields wurde Jared Smith als Fedora Project Leader bestimmt. Es ist interessant zu sehen, dass der neue FPL wieder kein Europärer ist, obwohl Europa einen wichtigen Teil innerhalb des Fedora-Ökosystem spielt. Trotzdem möchte ich Jarod alles gute Wünschen. P. S. FUDCon Zürich wäre ein guter Ort, um die europäische Community zu treffen ;-)
