Ein deutscher News-Verteiler hat einen Artikel über einer Studie veröffentlicht, welche untersucht hat, wie viele eine Linux-Distibution wert hat. Bei Fedora sind es 10,8 Milliarden US-Dollar (dieser Betrag müsste aufgewendet werden, wenn Fedora 9 von Null nachentwickelt würde).

Noch ein paar andere interessante Zahlen:

• 204,5 Millionen Zeilen Quellcode in 5547 Paketen
• Entwicklungsaufwand nahezu 60000 Mannjahren
• Kernel von Fedora 6,8 Millionen Zeilen Code, Wert von 1,4 Milliarden US-Dollar und 7500 Mannjahre Arbeit

XO activities for Fedora

So far I'm still not knowing if I will get a XO to test Fedora it. Because of that I decided yesterday to start do it the other way around. Use sugar on Fedora. There is a lack of packed XO activities for Fedora, a good way to improve my personal packaging skills.

During the build process I ran into a problem...

Jeremy said that bundlebuilder.start() used to take an argument but no longer does with current Sugar. Now, I assume that it will no longer be possible to build sugar packages on a current Fedora 9 installation. I would like to hear that I'm wrong ;-)

W910i und Fedora

Da mein Nokia E60 ohne funktionierendes Mikrofon (mit Headset lässt sich noch sprechen) eigentlich nicht mehr als Handy zu gebrauchen ist, habe ich beschlossen ein neues zu kaufen. Leider ist es immer noch so, dass das Handy, welche ich kaufen würde, nicht existiert...

• keine Kamera
• Standby-Zeit 2000 h
• WLAN
• kein MMS
• kein Push-to-talk und anderen proprietärer Scheiss
• SIP-Client (der funktioniert, nicht so wie beim E60)
• Symbian
• GPS
• Gewicht unter 80 g

So bin ich einen Kompromiss eingegangen und habe ein W910i von SonyEricsson gekauft. Es ist klein und leicht und ich habe es günstig bekommen. Jedoch deckt es nicht gerade viele meiner Bedürfnisse ab, ich kann damit aber normal telefonieren.

Mit Outlook lassen sich heute fast alle Handies mit der beigelegten Software synchronisieren, aber von beigelegten Linux-Tools habe ich noch nie etwas gehört. wammu füllt diese Lücke. Es unterstützt eine riesige Anzahl von Telefonen und muss sich auch in Bezug auf den Funktionsumfang nicht verstecken.

Nach dem Einstecken des USB-Kabel, welche mit dem Handy verbunden ist, wird auch brav gemeldet, dass nun ein Telefon vorhanden ist.

Certified CAcert Assurer

This is nice to have but I see no benefit of giving certificates to assurers who passed the 'Assurer Challenge' (there are some tricky questions but you can make the test as many times you want) and have over 100 points, or are you a 'Certified PGP/GPG Keysigning Supervisor'?

At the other hand it's the only way to get the certificate in the browsers of Mozilla.
